Repairs
Sub-Zero refrigeration repairs
One manufacturer, built-in and integrated refrigeration only. Each page starts from the symptom you can actually see, not from a part number.

-
Ice maker
The most common call we take, and the one most often misdiagnosed. An ice maker that will not harvest is frequently reporting a fault somewhere else in the cabinet.
- The mold fills but the cubes never release
- Cubes come out hollow, cloudy or half the normal size
- Ice production drops off over weeks rather than stopping all at once
-
Not cooling
One side warm and the other fine is a different fault from both sides warm. We read the split first, because it narrows the work by half.
- The fresh-food side is warm but the freezer is still hard-frozen
- Both compartments have drifted a few degrees over a week or two
- The unit runs almost continuously and never seems to satisfy
-
Frost and defrost
Water that should leave the cabinet is staying in it and freezing where it sits. The evidence is usually visible before anything is disassembled.
- A sheet of frost on the freezer back wall that returns after you clear it
- Water pooling under the crisper drawers or along the bottom of the cabinet
- A solid slab of ice in the ice bin instead of loose cubes
-
Boards and power
The strike is not the problem. The surge when power comes back is, and a board that half-survives it behaves worse than one that dies outright.
- The display came back after an outage but the unit behaves oddly
- An alarm sounds for a condition that is not actually happening
- The compartment reading on the panel does not match a thermometer
-
Doors and gaskets
A door that is not sealing makes every other symptom worse and costs a fraction of what the symptoms get blamed on.
- The door does not pull itself shut over the last inch
- Condensation or frost forms around the door opening
- The gasket is cracked, flattened, or has taken a permanent set
-
Wine storage
A wine unit fails silently. There is no spoiled milk to warn you, so the first evidence is often in the glass rather than on the display.
- One zone holds temperature and the other does not
- The set point and the actual temperature disagree by several degrees
- Bottles at the top read noticeably warmer than bottles at the bottom
