What owners said after the visit

Rated 4.4 out of 5 across all 21 reviews published on this site.

An ice-maker module resting in a hand in front of the empty bracket it came out of, cubes visible in the bin below.
What comes out is shown to you, and what goes back in is written down.

Every entry below is one owner describing one visit: what the cabinet was doing, what turned out to be wrong once the panel came off, and how the call ended. They are published with a first name and a last initial, which is as much as anyone agreed to have sitting on a public page.

How to read the number

The 4.4 above is the plain arithmetic mean of the 21 reviews on this page. It is not carried over from anywhere else, and it is not the average of a set you cannot see. If you would rather do the sum yourself, the stars fall like this:

Nothing has been held back for reading badly. The four-star notes are mostly about a part that had to be ordered or a job that needed a second call; the three-star ones are about waiting, and about not being told up front that a wait was coming. Those are the entries worth reading first, because they describe what this looks like when it does not run cleanly.

What a review here cannot tell you

It cannot tell you what your repair will cost. The $129 diagnostic is flat whatever the fault turns out to be, and everything after it is put in writing before a part is ordered. It also cannot tell you whether your cabinet is worth repairing — that is a readings-and-parts question, answered on the day in your kitchen with the plate in front of us.

Doctors Lake Refrigeration works Sub-Zero refrigeration only, in Orange Park and the rest of Clay County. What we charge to look is on what it costs, the cover after a repair is on warranty, and the number is on the contact page.

After the power dropped twice in one night the built-in came back with a blank panel. He found the main board had lost its low-voltage supply and traced that to a failed transformer, not the board itself.

The freezer door had stopped sealing at the bottom and we were mopping up water. He replaced the gasket, then spent as long again squaring the door so the new one would not distort the same way.

Frost was building on the back wall faster than we could scrape it away. He tested the defrost heater and the sensor, found the sensor reading open, and replaced it. No talk of a new cabinet, which I expected.

He worked out why we had no ice and the repair has held, but the part sat on order for a fortnight and I had to chase for an update. The technician was fine; the communication in between was not.

The fresh food side had crept into the high forties overnight. He found the evaporator sealed in ice and the defrost circuit dead. He thawed it out fully instead of chipping at it, then replaced the heater.

The wine cabinet had drifted several degrees over a month and its display disagreed with my own thermometer. He compared both against a probe, found the sensor tired, and changed it. It sits where it should.

We lost power for most of a day and the unit came back beeping and not cooling. He checked the supply first, then the board, and found a relay welded shut. He replaced it and explained why an outage does that.

Our built-in had started sweating along the door edge in the summer humidity. He found the gasket compressed flat on the hinge side and the door dropped a fraction. New gasket, hinge shimmed, sweating stopped.

Ice was forming under the bottom drawer and the drain had frozen solid. He cleared it, fitted the clip that keeps the tube warm, and warned me it would return if the cabinet sat unlevel. It has not come back.

No ice for a fortnight. He found the shutoff arm out of adjustment and the water valve barely opening on our well pressure. He corrected both and left me knowing what to check before calling anyone again.

The diagnosis was right and the cabinet cools properly now. What I did not enjoy was taking a second day off work when the first part turned out to be wrong for our model, with no warning that could happen.

The upper zone of the wine unit ran warm while the lower one held fine. He found the divider damper stuck part open and the door seal tired at one corner. Two small parts, and the zones separated again.

The refrigerator restarted itself after the outage but the freezer never came back. He found the board healthy and the compressor relay not, which saved us the expensive part. Honest work and plainly explained.

The doors on the tall unit had stopped lining up and one would swing shut on its own. He reset the hinge cams, replaced a worn cam bushing, and levelled the cabinet in its opening before he finished up.

Snow was collecting on the top shelf of the freezer and the door felt sticky to open. He found the drain heater open and a vent seal split, so warm air got in every time we opened it. Both were replaced.

Ice production had dropped to almost nothing over a few months. He measured the water pressure at the unit, found it low, and traced it to a filter housing nobody had ever changed. Simple once he explained it.

The cabinet was running but not cooling, and the machine compartment was hot enough to feel through the panel. He found the condenser fan seized and the coil packed with dog hair. New fan, coil cleaned, back to normal.

The work was done properly and my bottles are back at the right temperature. My complaint is how long the whole thing took from first call to finish, and that everything had to be moved out twice.

After a lightning hit nearby the unit would run for an hour then shut itself down. He found the board damaged on one output rather than dead outright, which is why it looked intermittent. Steady since.

Our freezer drawer would not close fully and frost was creeping around the opening. He found the runner bent and the gasket torn where it had been catching on it. Both replaced, and the drawer glides again.

Frost kept coming back after we defrosted the unit by hand. He explained that doing it manually hides the fault, then found a defrost thermostat that was not closing at temperature. Replaced, and it has stayed clear.
