Why a flat fee rather than an hourly rate
An hourly rate pays a technician to be slow. A free call-out pays for itself somewhere else on the invoice, usually inside a part price you cannot check. A flat diagnostic is the only version of this that puts our incentive and yours in the same place: find the fault, find it quickly, and be right.
It also means we can tell you the fault is not worth repairing without having to justify the visit afterwards. That happens. A cabinet with a failed sealed system and twenty years on it is sometimes a replacement conversation, and the diagnostic fee is what buys you an honest one.
What we do not add on
- No emergency rate, because we do not advertise emergency cover we could not staff honestly.
- No evening or weekend surcharge. Saturday costs what Tuesday costs.
- No mileage charge inside the normal working radius.
- No charge for a second visit to fit a part we diagnosed on the first one.
- No diagnostic fee on a return visit for the same fault inside the labour warranty.
What is not included
Parts, and the labour to fit them, are quoted separately on the written estimate. We fit genuine oem parts, which are not the cheapest option available and are the reason the parts warranty runs to 365 days. If an aftermarket part would genuinely serve you better we will say so, but for sealed-system and control work it does not.
Work outside Sub-Zero built-in refrigeration is not quoted at all, because we do not do it. Cabinetry alterations, electrical work behind the wall and plumbing beyond the appliance shut-off belong to the relevant trade.

What else do people ask about the money?
- Why publish ranges rather than one price?
- Because one price would be invented. A door seal and a sealed system are not the same job, so the book runs from $230–$610 at the cheap end to $950–$2,460 at the expensive one. The range is what a reader can act on. The firm figure is written down after the diagnosis.
- What is actually inside a band?
- The part, the labour to fit it, and the return trip if the part had to be ordered. Not the $80 diagnostic, which is charged once and credited toward the repair, and not work outside built-in refrigeration, which we do not take on at any price.
- When is replacing the cabinet the cheaper answer?
- Less often than it sounds. A comparable built-in is $8,600–$19,400 for the appliance alone, before delivery, installation or panels, so even sealed-system work at $950–$2,460 is usually the smaller number. Age on its own does not settle it; which system failed does.
